Bioinformatics Center of the Biotechnology Institute at the National University of Colombia (CBIB) has as a main goal the establishment of the Bioinformatics field in Colombia. The CBIB looks for the strengthens of the scientific and technological researchers, especially in the bioinformatics field. In order to accomplish this task, several tools and courses have been made available to the scientific community since its beginning, along with qualified support. CBIB allows public access to updated versions of all the major genomics databanks (EMBL, PDB, UNIREF, UNIPROT, OMIM, TAXONOMY, PFAM, KEGG, PROSITE and PATHWAY ), through our SRS (sequence Retrieval System) service, which is also part of the SRS federation. We provide access to several known Bioinformatics tools such as EMBOSS (through EMBOSS:GUI, wEMBOSS and jEMBOSS), BLAST, SMS, SRS, DOTLET, PHRAP, PHRED , Consed). We have also developed specific tools to help researchers solve their laboratory problems in an efficient manner. It is important to emphasize on the fact that we provide tools that can be easily accessible via the web, but we also provide command line tools that can be used for any investigator after registration (i.e, PHRAP/PHRED).
