The course starts with a primer on Image Analysis, applied to 2D Gels. You will be working hands-on at computers with cutting-edge 2D gel image analysis software as well as learning the basic theory of 2D gel image analysis data quality. This class covers the same material as being tought exclusively at the prestigeous proteomics training courses at the National Institutes of Health in USA.

During the five days of the course, we will teach several topics relevant to structure-based drug discovery. Such topics include structure determination and prediction (days 1 and 2), human variability and pharmacogenomics (day 3), docking of small molecules from an experimental and computational prespective (day 4) and quantitative structure-activity relationships (day 5). This course is addressed to students with some knowledge of structural biology as well as computational biology.

This course consists of a mix of lectures and practical experience in accessing proteomics resources. An overview of each of the databases will introduce participants to the types of data, the way the data are stored and the connection between databases. Subsequently database-specific lectures will address the programmatic accessibility of the data and data integration between resources. This new knowledge will then be applied in hands-on tutorials.
