How to become a member of the organization?

The candidate node should fulfill the candidature page (soon available) and send the requested documents to the Executive Board at least 3 months before the next Annual General Meeting.
Usual requested documents:
- Letter of motivation
- Detailed presentation of the institution or industrial partner
- Letter of committement from the government (for national nodes only)

| The EMBnet organization is composed of several types of nodes: |
- National node: single academic institution or consortium with committement and support from its national government, representing its country within EMBnet (e.g., Belgium node at ULB). The yearly fee is EURO1000
- Specialist node: institution with special activity (e.g., EBI, ETI). The yearly fee is EURO1000
- Industrial node: industrial partner of EMBnet (e.g., LION Bioscience). The yearly fee is EURO2500

| Rules for National, Specialist and Industrial nodes: |

Rights A node representative has full voting rights, is eligible at the Executive Board or Program Committees, can participate to all EMBnet projects, is allowed to apply for reimbursement of expenses.
Duties Each node must produce a yearly activity report to AGM. Failure of payment of the yearly fee exposes the node to discharging by the AGM.
Renewal of membership The status of a node is to be renewed every 3 years by the AGM.

| Rules for Associate academic nodes: |
| Any academic group looking to serve, or already serving its regional community/institute with tools and databanks in bioinformatics, or is proficient in the development of such tools or databanks, can apply for the status of associate academic node.
Rights An associate academic node has all rights of a national node, except for the following issues:
- it has no voting rights at the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
- it is not entitled to become member of the Executive Board
- it is not entitled to reimbursement of the expenditures incurred when attending the EMBnet meetings, unless when elected member of a committee
Duties An associate academic node must produce a yearly activity report to the AGM. It pays a yearly fee amounting to 25% of the fee of a national node. Failure of payment of the yearly fee exposes the node to discharging by the AGM.
