The Belgian node of EMBnet (BEN) provides access to permanently updated
databanks with nucleic acid, protein sequences and associatd data, as
well as several software packages to search these databanks and to
perform sequence analysis. The main packages available at this date are
:
MRS
EMBOSS
Staden
BEN is active, in
collaboration with the Bioinformatics laboratory of the Université
Libre de Bruxelles, in developing user interfaces to ease the access to
various sofware.
wEMBOSS and the alerting tools
CSA and
CSSA are among BEN's local developments.
BEN
provides direct support by phone, mail or Email. Besides its
bioinformatics services, the main task of BEN is its extensive training
in bioinformatics.
Since June 2002, BEN is in charge of the
BBPF project, part of the worldwide
GBIF initiative
BEN is a joint initiative of the two Brussels universities , U.L.B. and V.U.B. It is financially supported by the
Belgian Offices for Scientific, Cultural and Technical Afairs.
