EMBnet history
EMBnet is a science-based group of collaborating nodes throughout Europe and a number of nodes outside Europe. Originally formed by eleven nodes in 1988 (Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and UK), it has grown to more than 30 nodes in 2007. The combined expertise of the nodes allows EMBnet to provide services to the European molecular biology community which encompasses more than can be provided by a single node. EMBnet remains the main organization world-wide bringing bioinformatics professionals to work together to serve the expanding needs of researchers in the biomedical fields.
In order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its birth, the EMBnet community is organising a conference in Puglia (Italy), Sept. 2008.
